'Wonder Woman' marches to PHP 400 million in the country
UPDATED (6/16/17, 8:40AM). Wonder Woman lead the box office once again with PHP 113.89 million. After two weeks, the Princess of Themyscira has now collected PHP 408 million 412.7 million ($8.3M). It has now passed this year's blockbuster hits such as The Fate of the Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It really shows how positive word-of-mouth can help a film leg out.
If it continues to play well this week (Despicable Me 3 and Can We Still Be Friends opens today) like how it competed with The Mummy, it can likely top (or be in line) with the final numbers of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which is at $11 million. It would be interesting if that happens since Batman v Superman was marked as the first movie with two of the most iconic superheroes of all time together but received universal negative reviews and Wonder Woman is a straight-forward origin story which received universal acclaim. Also, it is worth-noting that the top two highest grossing films in the country (and possibly, all time) this year are lead by female (the other is Beauty and the Beast which is the highest grossing film of all time in the country).

In second place, Tom Cruise returns to the box office with a strong PHP 85 million debut for The Mummy (2017). Meanwhile, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 added PHP 8.8 million this week lifting its total to PHP 152 million in three weeks. Dwayne Johnson-Zac Efron comedy Baywatch tumbled 82 percent this week with PHP 3.17 million. In two weeks, it has now surfed PHP 26 million in the country.
