'Wonder Woman' lasso-es PHP 48 million on its opening day in the Philippines; PHP 90+ million in two days - Updated
Warner Bros' Wonder Woman opened Thursday in the country in huge numbers. The first big-budgeted female superhero movie opened to strong PHP 48.39 million (205,041 admissions). That is the third highest opening day gross for a WB feature, only behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel (both of which are frontloaded thanks to the negative reviews and the nature of a superhero movie box office). This also beats the opening day gross of Beauty and the Beast (PHP 47 million) which became the country's highest grossing film of all time. The number is also the highest for a non-holiday opening.
UPDATE (6/14/17, 9:14 AM): In day two, Wonder Woman continues its reign with a two-day cume of est. PHP 90+ million ($1.8M according to Deadline).
With strong reviews this time, Wonder Woman is expected to implode from here. Expect a full week opening north of PHP 200 million.
