'Can We Still Be Friends?' opens to a decent PHP 7 million amid strong competition

In a summer season lead by blockbusters Wonder Woman (PHP 400M+), The Mummy (PHP 85M+), and Pirates 5 (PHP 150M+) and upcoming movies such as Despicable Me 3 and Transformers 5, Star Cinema managed to get a space in the current crowded marketplace with Can We Still Be Friends?

The second team up of Gerald Anderson and Arci Munoz managed to attract PHP 7 million in ticket sales. That's in line with the opening day number of their first movie, Always Be My Maybe (PHP 8 million) which opened on a post-Valentines slot and weaker competition. Last year, The Achy Breaky Hearts (lead by Jodi Sta. Maria) opened to PHP 14 million while Love Me Tomorrow opened to PHP 13 million.

With a strong competition in the coming weeks (Transformers and Spiderman are usual biggies here), this needs to send positive word-of-mouth as fast as possible to collect a strong number this week (expect huge drops next week).
