'Transformers: The Last Knight' opening day proves how still strong the brand is here in the country
Bumblebee and his gang may be hitting an all-time low box office in the U.S. but it seems to be holding better here in the Philippines.
The fifth-quel opened to $ 919K (est. PHP 45M, $1- PHP 50) in 503 screens which is in line with the opening day number of Wonder Woman (PHP 48M on a Thursday). That movie received strong word-of-mouth and ended its first week run to PHP 233 million. Transformers 5 could likely follow this pattern and open north of PHP 200 million. The last Transformers movie, Age of Extinction, opened around PHP 250 million with weaker competition.
Also opening this week is Warner Bros' romance Everything Everything. With Transformers eating a huge number of screens this week, expect huge drops for Despicable Me 3, The Mummy, and Wonder Woman.
