How to Be Yours The good times at Star Cinema stopped, at least for the moment. Critically acclaimed  How to Be Yours  starring Bea Alonso & Gerald Anderson earned a low PHP 10 million on its first day. That's lower than Bea Alonso's 2015 films A Second Chance (PHP 43.3 million) & The Love Affair (PHP 15 million) and her lowest opening in 4 years ( 24/7 In Love)  but a bit higher than Gerald Anderson's previous movie Always Be My Maybe (PHP 10 million) .  What happened? A Bea Alonso romantic movie is a sure-fire hit and yes this might also be considered a hit. But Ms. Alonso's box office standards are not like this.Three Reasons came up into my mind. One: the release date. Coming off from the success of Imagine You & Me  plus the opening of Jason Bourne  this week (plus Star Trek Beyond and Lights Out  targets their target audience) and the opening of hotly anticipated Suicide Squad  next week, this is a surprisingly crowded market for How to Be Yours

After weeks of so-so box office, it has waken up this week. Thanks to the strong but 'disappointing' PHP 120 million debut of Aldub's Imagine You & Me   which proved the strength of its fanbase and an okay opening for Ghostbusters.

Imagine You & Me APT Entertainment (from GMA's 24 Oras) has reported that Imagine You & Me  starring Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza has earned PHP 21.5 million on its first day. That's the highest opening day gross for a local movie this year beating Just the 3 Of Us' 16 million. Again, this is lower than their previous movie-starrer My Bebe Love (60 million). Also, this is the highest grossing opening day gross for a non-MMFF movie from GMA Films which is a big achievement in the times that Star Cinema has been in this average in their movies.

Imagine You & Me Aldub's new hit movie Imagine You & Me  opened to PHP 21. 5 million [UPDATED]  (from the previous est. PHP 13 millio . That's a strong start for a local pic in the coun)ntry but this is obviously lower than their previous movie My Bebe Love which currently has the throne of the highest opening day gross for a local movie but that, of course, was released on MMFF season and with Aldub still on peak. And what's more surprising is that it's in line with last year's The Breakup Playlist (July 1) which opened to PHP 18 million.  Yes, 21 million is big. But the problem here is: Star Cinema's monthly movies have a usual opening day gross of around PHP 12-16 million (with Just the 3 Of Us leading with 16 million). So this makes the opening an average one. What's more surprising is the competition. Ghostbusters doesn't open until Friday. Dukot  is targeting the indie-loving audience. Check out the first trailer of How to Be Yours featuring the first team-up of Gerald Anderson & Bea Alonso.  Directed by Dan Villgeas, How to Be Yours  is a story about two people who met and fell in love. Nino (Gerald Anderson), a sales agents who's bent on attaining stability and Anj (Bea Alonso), a self-taught cook who dreams of working in a high-end restaurant someday. But when love changes their goals, will their relationship survive the struggles? What if the reasons that made them fall in love are not the same reason for them to go on anymore? Independence Day: Resurgence Box Office Mojo and Deadline reports about the Philippines Box Office have been rarer than ever. But now, (June 22-26), Independence Day: Resurgence  debuts strong with $2.13 million (almost PHP 100 million), enough to likely get the first week for the week. Also, here are the updates for our Summer Blockbusters.

Ian Veneracion & Jodi Sta. Maria in The Achy Breaky Hearts The good times in Star Cinema  continues to roll. Their latest feature, The Achy Breaky Hearts  starring Jodi Sta. Maria, Ian Veneracion & Richard Yap, earned a strong PHP 14 million. This marks as the fourth Star Cinema movie this year to pass the 10 million opening day gross. This shows that the loveteam of Jodi Sta. Maria to these two guys (Richard Yap from the massive hit Be Careful with My Heart and Ian Veneracion from Pangako Sa'Yo ). This also strengthens the fact that Star Cinema  knows how to market their movies considering the movie was announced just around two months ago. While the good opening gives us a mindset that the romantic comedy movie can pass 100 million, the strong competition in the coming weeks will hinder the movie from reaching it (most especially, Imagine You & Me  on July 15 together with Ghostbusters  and Ice Age 5 ) Photo Source: Rappler
