Box Office: 'Imagine You & Me' wakes up the box office; 'Ghostbusters' got good scares

After weeks of so-so box office, it has waken up this week. Thanks to the strong but 'disappointing' PHP 120 million debut of Aldub's Imagine You & Me which proved the strength of its fanbase and an okay opening for Ghostbusters.


Imagine You & Me opened to PHP 120 million on its first 5 days in the box office.This is indeed the biggest opening for a local film this year beating Just the 3 Of Us. Of course, it's lower than their recent pic My Bebe Love which opened last MMFF and while their love team was on its peak. But in good news, the opening was above last year's Crazy Beautiful You starring the Kathniel love team (a loveteam comparable to Aldub's popularity) which collected PHP 110 million on its first week. With a competition likely different from its target audience, Imagine You & Me can enjoy another strong week before it meets to compete How to Be Yours starring Bea Alonso & Gerald Anderson. A total north of PHP 220 million seems likely at the moment.

Ghostbusters debuted to $ 821k (est. 39 million) in the country. That's a fine opening for a horror comedy in the country considering competition. With theaters fastly removing movies weekly, a gross north of $1.5 million is expected.

Late Box Office Update: Ice Age: Collision Course opened to $ 869k on its opening week last July 6, 2016. That's a bit lower than the previous Ice Age which opened to $ 1 million. This proves that even in the international markets, Ice Age is also starting to fizzle.
