After weeks of so-so box office, it has waken up this week. Thanks to the strong but 'disappointing' PHP 120 million debut of Aldub's Imagine You & Me   which proved the strength of its fanbase and an okay opening for Ghostbusters.

Imagine You & Me APT Entertainment (from GMA's 24 Oras) has reported that Imagine You & Me  starring Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza has earned PHP 21.5 million on its first day. That's the highest opening day gross for a local movie this year beating Just the 3 Of Us' 16 million. Again, this is lower than their previous movie-starrer My Bebe Love (60 million). Also, this is the highest grossing opening day gross for a non-MMFF movie from GMA Films which is a big achievement in the times that Star Cinema has been in this average in their movies.

Imagine You & Me Aldub's new hit movie Imagine You & Me  opened to PHP 21. 5 million [UPDATED]  (from the previous est. PHP 13 million. That's a strong start for a local pic in the counntry but this is obviously lower than their previous movie My Bebe Love which currently has the throne of the highest opening day gross for a local movie but that, of course, was released on MMFF season and with Aldub still on peak. And what's more surprising is that it's in line with last year's The Breakup Playlist (July 1) which opened to PHP 18 million.  Yes, 21 million is big. But the problem here is: Star Cinema's monthly movies have a usual opening day gross of around PHP 12-16 million (with Just the 3 Of Us leading with 16 million). So this makes the opening an average one. What's more surprising is the competition. Ghostbusters doesn't open until Friday. Dukot  is targeting the indie-loving audience.
