The 5th Wave debuts strong on Philippines Box Office.The science fiction thriller films opened to $ 1.1 million ( Est. PHP 52 million) in the country. That's a strong opening for a January opening. This proves that the combination of the popular Chloe Grace Moretz (popular in the teen demographic in the country) and the sci-fi theme. Meanwhile, the movie opened to a so-so $ 10.7 million  in the United States box office which ranks sixth, behind holdovers The Revenant ($ 16 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($ 14.2 million), & Ride Along 2 ($ 12.9 million) and newcomers Dirty Grandpa starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron ($ 11.52 million) & The Boy ($ 11.26 million).

This Valentines Day 2016, VIVA Films presents love story based on the best-selling Wattpad novel - Girlfriend for Hire . Leah Salonga in Allegiance . (C) Theater Mania Filipina actress and Broadway legend Leah Salonga will guest star (and sing) on the season finale of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend . Rachel Bloom , who won the 2016 Golden Globe Award for Lead TV Comedy Actress, made the  announcement backstage at the Sunday's Golden Globes (January 10, 2016). "One of our characters happens to be Filipino (Vincent Rodriguez III) so when we realized no one else had even made the effort to show a Filipino family on an American comedy, it taught me a lot about Filipino culture," Bloom said. "It also taught me really about how important diversity is, if you want to tell a new story." Meanwhile, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach meets Leah Salonga on the backstage of Allegiance . Based from the book of the same name, Bob Ong's Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin is hitting the local theaters this January 2016. The movie from VIVA Films and Heaven's Best Entertainment is a rib-tickling parody and satire of the commercial filmmaking in the Philippines with an anthology of three different stories. Here's my short review/reaction of the latest movies I've watched (in no particular order). For reviews only: I will also add here my review/reaction from the US TV shows that I watch. My grade would be from 1 to 5. 1. My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore Review: This is an average MMFF movie. Although read by a great cast (Aldub was okay, not great), My Bebe Love suffers from a uneven plot and product placements.  Grade: 2/5   

The Conjuring 2 brings back the Warrens to a the realm of the supernatural as they help another family with a haunting. This time the spirit is more sinister and darker than the last. The supernatural thriller brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits. The 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival  is nearing its end. But, the audience isn't UPDATE (1|09|16) - DAY 14 : After two weeks, MMFF 2015 has totaled up to PHP 1.02 billion. That's up from last year's PHP 985 million. Reports say that Beauty and the Bestie has taken the leas over My Bebe Love although the MMFF committee has yet to announce the rankings. If true, this continues the strong legs of Vice Ganda's movies throughout the festival. My Bebe Love didn't become the mega-hit that I predicted but it is still a great performance coming from an unexpected hit love team 'Aldub' & a comedic duo of Ai Ai Delas Alas and Vic Sotto UPDATE  (1|04|16) - DAY 9 : After 9 days, MMFF is now at PHP 834 million. It is up 6 percent from last year. According to  mykiru.ph , two films have already passed PHP 300 million. The top four still remains the same: My Bebe Love, Beauty and the Bestie, Walang Forever, & Haunted Mansion. Stay tuned for more updates!

Joy  (movie, US | Semi-biographical, Drama | 2015) Review : It may not reach the heights of Director Russel's work, Joy is still a great movie thanks to its fast-paced story and another great performance of Jennifer Lawrence. Grade: 3.5/5 2. Bridge of Spies  (movie, US | Historical-Drama, Thriller | 2015) Review: Steven Spielberg + Tom Hanks = Another great movie. A historical drama-thriller worthy to watch. The 8 Official Entries for the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival The race continues at this year's Metro Manila Film Festival . UPDATE (1|03|16) - DAY 8: A lot of audiences return to cinemas on New Year Day. The 8th Day of the festival added an est. PHP 97 million bringing its total to PHP 737 million which is still up from last year and is on bound to beat the last year's 2 week total of PHP 1.01 billion. The top four films remains the same. UPDATE (1|02|16) - DAY 7 : One Week! Thursday showings added a low PHP 18 miilion. The total box office earnings of MMFF totaled up to PHP 640 million which is still up from last year while it may have a tough time beating last year's PHP 701 million 8-day total. Unsurprisingly, there are still no reports of gross per movie. UPDATE (1|01|16, Happy New Year!) - DAY 6 : MMFF is reporting that the festival has raked PHP 622 million in 6 days, higher than last year;s PHP 598 million at the same timeframe. My grade would be from 1 to 5. 1. Heneral Luna (Movie, PH | Biopic | 2015) Review: Finally, a movie for both critics and mainstream moviegoers to enjoy. Heneral Luna is dark, bold and surprisingly fun dramatization of the story of one of the greatest generals in the country. Grade: 4/5
