Alan Rickman, known for his role in Harry Potter as Professor Snape, has died in the age of 69 (his family has said). His death was confirmed by publicist Catherine Olim. He had been suffering from cancer. He also portrayed Hans Gruber in Die Hard.
JK Rowling, author of the worldwide phenomenon Harry Potter, said: “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man”. Meanwhile, Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore, said: “Everybody loved Alan. He was always happy and fun and creative and very, very funny.”
