Philippines Box Office: '5th' waves strong in the country; US not so much
The 5th Wave debuts strong on Philippines Box Office.The science fiction thriller films opened to $ 1.1 million (Est. PHP 52 million) in the country. That's a strong opening for a January opening. This proves that the combination of the popular Chloe Grace Moretz (popular in the teen demographic in the country) and the sci-fi theme.
Meanwhile, the movie opened to a so-so $ 10.7 million in the United States box office which ranks sixth, behind holdovers The Revenant ($ 16 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($ 14.2 million), & Ride Along 2 ($ 12.9 million) and newcomers Dirty Grandpa starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron ($ 11.52 million) & The Boy ($ 11.26 million).

Late Report: Coco Martin Vice Ganda's Beauty and the Bestie reached PHP 500 million mark making it the 2nd Filipino film to do so (after last year's A Second Chance) and currently the highest grossing MMFF movie of all time (beating his own Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin).
