Batman v Superman breaks Philippine Box Office Records with PHP 86.6 million first day gross; Who Won? It's Warner Bros

#WhoWillWin? It's Warner Bros. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opened to PHP 86.6 million. That's the biggest single day opening gross in the country beating last year's Avengers: Age of Ultron's PHP 72.7 million (though Age of Ultron opened on Wednesday while Dawn of Justice opened on Saturday). It is also the highest grossing single day gross for a movie in the country, beating Age of Ultron's PHP 83.2 million. Again, it has beaten Age of Ultron's PHP 83.2 million for the highest grossing Saturday gross ever.

Over the past few years, Easter weekend has become a great time for opening a movie and Dawn of Justice continues to prove that. Despite bad reviews, people still flocked to see the first on-screen together appearance of these characters though it remains to be seen how Filipinos would react to the movie. The movie also broke those records above thanks to its Black Saturday opening. This made all fans and excited moviegoers for Dawn of Justice to watch the movie in a single day (Age of Ultron opened on Wednesday so it has a 5-day opening compare to BvS which has a 2-day opening only).

It remains to be seen if it can hold on Sunday but it looks like the audience is still huge. A PHP 90 million Sunday gross seems reachable if the word-of-mouth becomes good. It is also Easter Sunday so expect people to be in shopping malls this time.
