'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' heats up; 'Fast and Furious 8' crashes

It's the time of the year when everyone is anticipating a new Marvel movie. This time its the sequel to the surprise breakout hit of 2014. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opened to a strong PHP 159.32 million. See more of the breakdown below:



Volume 2 opened higher than the previous PHP 103 million opening of the first movie. This is a strong opening for a Marvel movie without Iron Man or Captain America. Although crowded, the superhero movie doesn't look like it's going to have a tough competition over the next few weeks which can help this leg out (sequels tend to be more front-loaded). A number around PHP 350 million is within reach.

After leading for two weeks, Fast and Furious 8 crashed to second place this week. It made PHP 37.8 million this week which was off 68 percent. It has now collected PHP 353 million in three weeks and has still a few gas left.

Speaking of crash, Beauty and the Beast crashed 93.5 percent this week with PHP 0.13 million. Again, no problem for Disney since it has already made a record breaking PHP 676 million here in the country.
