In a surprising turn of events, Our Mighty Yaya did fine business on its opening week while Star Cinema's Dear Other Self looks like it disappointed.

Despite not distributed by Star Cinema, Regal Film's Mother's Day offering Our Mighty Yaya starring Ai Ai Delas Alas opened to a strong PHP 38 million on its first week. With a PHP 6 million opening day gross, the film legged out until the Mother's Day weekend. This shows the star power of Delas Alas and the likely boost from Mother's Day. Expect this to drop next week and a total around PHP 50-60 million seems likely which is a success for the film outlet.

Star Cinema is mum about the numbers of Dear Other Self. This is always not good. What happened? Jodi Sta. Maria may still be popular but with a new partner (Xian Lim & Joseph Marco), audiences may not be as pumped as before when she is partnered with Richard Yap and Ian Veneracion.
