MMFF Forecast (Part 3): The pressure is on for 'Beauty and the Bestie'

Beauty and the Bestie
Release Date: December 25, 2015
Studio: Star Cinema & VIVA Films

UPDATE (12|23|15): I've adjusted down my forecast for Beauty and the Bestie from 450 million now to 420 million

Analysis: Beauty and the Bestie marks the fourth film of Vice Ganda in the Metro Manila Film Festival. Every movie succeeds (from 2012-2014) breaks the record of the his previous film. Last year's The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin holds the title for the highest grossing MMFF. Can Bestie follow the track?

As I said earlier, each of his MMFF entry film breaks the record of his previous entry: from Sisterakas to Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy and to The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin. On paper, its easy to say that Beauty and the Bestie will follow that. But right now, it's odds have decreased. The movie will face the anticipated Aldub movie My Bebe Love: Kilig Pa More. And after four years, are the audiences finally tired of his type of comedy (personally, I'm not)? Coco Martin, his co-star in the movie, hasn't really been proven to be strong in the box office but he is a good addition. James Reid & Nadine Lustre also is a good addition but not a strong one (Kathniel would be stronger).

I think it will play pretty much like Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy which started off strong (but second to My Little Bossings) and had the strong holds during the festival season to overtake Bossings in the box office. Beauty and the Bestie will be stronger after the hype of My Bebe Love starts to calm. Vice Ganda has nothing to worry about - it will still sell, it will not just break records.

Gross Forecast: 420 million (down from 450 million)
