'Kita Kita' is this year's 'Heneral Luna'; reaches PHP 200 million in two weeks, PHP 300 millionn in three weeks

The hype is not dying down. Thanks to the continued strong word-of-mouth, Kita Kita has now made PHP 200 million in the country. The last time something like this happened was Heneral Luna back in 2015.


It is really an amazing feat considering Finally Found Someone starring Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz opened in theaters this week with solid numbers. This shows how powerful word-of-mouth can be here in the country (Please note this filmmakers) although another thing that can be attributed to this success is its simple yet intriguing concept. If you want to breakout, go original (and intriguing).

With a weaker marketplace in the coming weeks (Annabelle Creation arrives on Aug. 23, not Aug. 9), this can likely push its final total to PHP 300 million which is a fantastic number. It might even beat the likes of Can't Help Falling in Love and My Ex and Whys (domestic numbers only).

UPDATE (8|22|17): This may be late but still; Kita Kita has now reached PHP 300 million after three weeks making it the highest grossing indie film in the country. Meanwhile, Finally Found Someone also reached a huge mark. The Sarah Geronimo-John Lloyd Cruz romantic comedy has now earned PHP 200 million.
