'Can't Help Falling in Love' sets Black Saturday local records; 'Fast and Furious 8' opens strong

Kathniel's power is back. Their latest romantic comedy Can't Help Falling in Love sets Black Saturday records with a PHP 33 million opening day gross. This is the highest opening gross for a local movie opening on a Black Saturday. This was previously held by John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo three-quel It Takes A Man and A Woman which opened to PHP 32.6 million four years ago. Meanwhile, Universal pic Fast and Furious 8 opened to strong numbers.
Updated (2:00PM, 4/20/17): The reports are in for The Boss Baby. The Alec Baldwin animated movie opened to PHP 21 million. That's above this year's Smurfs: Lost Village which opened to PHP 17.61 million and did that for 5 days while Baby did PHP 21 million in just two days. Meanwhile, Beauty and the Beast crashed this week with PHP 7 million (off 75 percent). But no worries, it's just adding cash to its already record breaking total of PHP 665 million in 5 weeks.

- Life (2017) | Week Gross: PHP 0.1 million | Total: PHP 13.97 million

Updated (2:48 PM, 4/17/17): The opening beat their last year's offer Barcelona: A Love Untold which opened to PHP 23 million on its first day and is in line with their highest grossing film Crazy Beautiful You (PHP 32 million). If it follows the same track, this would be another sure PHP 300 million hit for Star Cinema.

Fast and Furious 8 opened to a strong PHP 110 million in its first two days in the country. On Black Saturday, the movie debut at PHP 56 million. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 still one week from now, this week can be seen a huge increase from both films (since both opened on Saturday and didn't got the usual good numbers from Wednesday-Friday).
