Star Cinema once again topped the MMFF season. Vince and Kath and James lead the box office over a close Die Beautiful (December 25-January 3, 2016). Overall MMFF box office was down almost half from last year when Beauty and the Bestie and My Bebe Love broke records and with a longer theatrical run.

These numbers were provided by Star Cinema and not the MMFF committee.

The Star Cinema romantic pic lead the race with PHP 105 million. This is higher than their last year's star-studded entry All You Need is Pag-Ibig. It is also close to Walang Forever and English Only, Please's final numbers.

Die Beautiful, the surprise box office hit, managed to capture the second place with PHP 98 million. The comedy starring Paolo Ballesteros could push its gross up to PHP 150 million.

Erik Matti's critically acclaimed horror feature Seklusyon is in third place with PHP 82 million. As the sole horror movie of the festival, horror fans flocked to see this pic. PHP 100 million is still within reach.

In fourth place, Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2 earned PHP 45 million, passing the first entry's PHP 38 million gross. Lack of hype/buzz prevented this movie to capture the family audience.

Saving Sally did okay business with PHP 27 million, capturing fifth place. With the pic still playing in major theaters, this could still add a few more millions before the end of its run.

MMFF Best Picture Sunday Beauty Queen grossed PHP 7.8 million. This is a huge step up after reports of empty screenings in the majority of its theaters on the early days. Even with this low numbers, the documentary film with no major stars can still be qualified as a small hit.

Kabisera and the controversial pic Oro captured the 7th and 8th positions respectively. Kabisera did PHP 4.3 million while Oro did PHP 4.2 million.
