Filipinos hail King 'Kong'

After last week's strong debut for Logan (est. PHP 100M), the good times in the box office continues to roll. This week, its Kong: Skull Island who delivered strong numbers on its opening.


The retelling of the famous monster from Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures/Tencent Pictures opened to a strong PHP 77.86 million across 290 screens. It's a strong number for a March release with stiff competition (Logan last week, Beauty and the Beast, & Power Rangers in the coming weeks). The debut was lower than Godzilla's PHP 90.3 million opening which had Amazing Spiderman 2 in its third weekend and X-Men: Days of Future Past the following week as competition. After a strong opening, Godzilla fell and ended its run at around PHP 155 million which is a good number for Kong: Skull Island.
