Can the new KathNiel movie go head-to-head with 'Fate of the Furious' & 'Guardians of the Galaxy?'
KatNiel's new movie, Can't Help Falling in Love, will be released this April according to Push. The film is also said to be lighter than their previous effort, Barcelona: A Love Untold which raked a ton of money although lower than Crazy Beautiful You. If the release date will remain, it will face some tough competition with Universal's The Fate of the Furious and Disney Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Can they survive?
The answer? A big yes. Although the two mentioned above will kill everything along their way, they are targeting a different audience from Can't Help. It is more likely that these two will be the one who will steal audience from one another. Another example is last year's Just the 3 Of Us starring John Lloyd Cruz and Jennylyn Mercado. That film was released one week after the release of the much anticipated Captain America: Civil War and had to compete with local feature This Time starring James Reid and Nadine Lustre. Just the 3 Of Us was proven to be a box office hit and the same should happen with the new KathNiel movie.
Another thing is the tone of the movie. Some say that the more mature tone of Barcelona drive some fans away from the theaters. If this is true, then Can't Help Falling in Love can get these fans again. A number in line or even over Barcelona is assured. With this, the success of My Ex and Whys and the upcoming John Lloyd-Sarah Geronimo movie, Star Cinema could top its 2016 business and that's a conversation for another day.
